Joint Commission requires hospitals to offer Acupuncture

A press release by Acupuncture Today clearly defines the obligation of hospitals accredited by The Joint Commission (a licensing entity for hospitals) to offer Acupuncture as one of its non pharmacological options for pain management and treatment.

The 2017 revised standards encourage hospitals to emphasize safe opioid and non-opioid use, increase the patient education on pain management plans of care and outline the potential side effects of treatment.  The standards make pain assessment and management  an organizational priority  to be adopted by hospitals.
